Fireworks and Flip-Flops: A Coastal 4th of July
If there’s one thing we know how to do down here on Alabama’s Gulf Coast, it’s throw a proper celebration. And when it comes to the Fourth of July, we don’t just celebrate—we show out. From Gulf Shores to Orange Beach, Fort Morgan to Perdido Key, there’s a little slice of Americana waiting for you under the Southern sun. Whether you’re beach lounging, firework watching, or two-steppin’ with a bushwacker in hand, this neck of the woods brings the red, white, and woo hoo.
So if you’re planning to spend your Independence Day with your toes in the sand and a front-row seat to the action, here’s your guide to the most festive, family-friendly, and downright fun things to do on the Gulf Coast this 4th of July.
Gulf Shores Fireworks: The Main Event
Let’s start with the big show. The City of Gulf Shores puts on a jaw-dropping fireworks display every year, and 2025 is shaping up to be no different. The fireworks will launch at 9 p.m. sharp on July 4th from the Gulf State Park Fishing and Education Pier.
For the best views, head toward the eastern area of the Gulf Shores Public Beach or snag a spot near the Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion. If you’re bringing a crew, consider parking at Lake Shelby or the Fishing Pier, and maybe pack a blanket, some snacks, and a little patience—the whole town tends to turn out for this one, and for good reason.
There’s just something unforgettable about fireworks lighting up the sky over the Gulf, waves crashing in the background, and someone nearby inevitably blasting “Proud to Be an American” from a speaker.
Flora-Bama’s 4th of July Bash
Now, if you’re looking for a little more honky-tonk with your holiday, Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar straddles the Alabama-Florida line and is known for throwing legendary shindigs. Their 4th of July Party includes live music all day, drink specials, and good ol’ beachside revelry.
This isn’t your grandma’s backyard barbecue—unless your grandma really knows how to party. Think flip flops, beach hats, ice-cold drinks, and dancing in the sand ‘til the fireworks start. You can catch the show right from the beach—just don’t forget your koozie and a towel.
More Fun Around the Coast
The whole Gulf Coast gets in on the patriotic action. In Orange Beach, you’ll find live music, family-friendly festivities, and plenty of good eats around The Wharf—plus their own fireworks show. The Wharf has everything from a Ferris wheel to boutique shopping, and they usually pull out all the stops for the 4th.
Perdido Beach Resort also celebrates Independence Day with live music and a front-row seat to fireworks over the water. It’s a great spot for those wanting a quieter, classy coastal celebration without missing the sparkle. If you’re looking for something a little slower-paced, take a ride down to Fort Morgan. This tucked-away treasure is ideal for families wanting a low-key beach day with plenty of room to stretch out. Bring a picnic, watch the sunset, and you’ll likely catch fireworks on the horizon from Gulf Shores.
And just across the bay in Fairhope, you’ll find a charming small-town vibe with fireworks, concerts, and art markets. If you’ve got time to take the scenic drive around Mobile Bay, this little detour is worth it. Think live music under twinkle lights, local vendors, and a whole lotta Southern charm.

Where to Stay: Beachball Properties
Now, whether you’re a first-time visitor or practically part of the sand at this point, finding a place to stay that feels like home (but with better views) is key. That’s where we come in.
At BEACHBALL PROPERTIES, we roll out the red, white, and beachy carpet. Our vacation rentals stretch from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to Fort Morgan and Perdido Key. Whether you’re coming with the whole fam, your best girlfriends, or sneaking away for a romantic getaway, we’ve got just the right spot.
Our beachy stays are comfy, coastal, and full of personality—just like our Beachballers. We know this place like the back of our sandy hand, and we’re happy to point you toward the best local coffee shops, seafood joints, and sunset views.
(Just be warned: once you vacation like a Beachballer, nowhere else quite measures up.)
A Few Tips for a Stellar 4th
Before you load up the cooler and head to the beach, here are a few reminders from your local beach buds:
• Get there early: Fireworks spots fill up fast, so claim your patch of sand before sunset.
• Pack smart: Sunscreen, water, beach chairs, and a flashlight for finding your way back.
• Stay safe: Fireworks are best left to the pros, and remember—no glass on the beach.
• Don’t forget your tunes: A patriotic playlist is a must. (Lee Greenwood is basically a requirement.)
• Be kind: We’re all here to celebrate, so mind your neighbors and “leave only footprints.”
Come On, Y’all!
Whether you’re clapping along to a concert at The Wharf, eating a corndog by the pier, or watching fireworks light up the night sky with sand between your toes, there’s no place like the Gulf Coast for the 4th of July. It’s sweet tea, sunshine, and star-spangled everything—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
So grab your favorite red, white, and whatever’s comfy, and make some memories with the ones you love. And if you’re staying with BEACHBALL PROPERTIES, welcome to the family. We’re glad you’re here.
